Fuerteventura, Spain

Following the previous post, here comes the first entry of my trip to Fuerteventura, Spain.

The entire 7 day trip costs £300 in total, including flight, accommodation, and expenses.

What a bargain!

Yet another budget trip since Majorca last summer *bliss* :)

My first time traveling with Ryanair. I've had a bad feeling about this..

Our 3 star self-catered apartment, Brisamar

I initially booked to stay in Playa Park Club, few minutes drive away from Brisamar Hotel. Upon arrival at Playa Park reception, the staff started waffling about then broke the news and said they were fully booked for the week and we would be 'upgraded' and transferred to stay in Brisamar instead. Fully booked? We booked it too and we're the unfortunate one to be pushed about. It was rather shocking that they seem to have arranged everything without informing us, let alone consulting. Staff was not apologetic at all as if we had to follow his order to be transferred to another hotel. Manager was not around either to deal with this issue. It looks to me what seems like a normal procedure that they push customers to another hotel without permission. We didn't have a choice but to move to Brisamar, which I don't think is an upgrade considering it looks pretty much the same however I rather stay there due to excellent customer service and better location. All in all, no regrets being transferred to Brisamar. Playa Park Club, extremely poor customer service.

Universal Studios

Fortunately enough, I remembered bringing my camera during my trip to Singapore last Sept
Was pretty excited to see Universal Studios opening in Asia, last time I went to one
was Warner Brothers in Gold Coast, Australia. Let's take a ride through my stream

At the entrance of US, there're some pretty pointless candy shops out there

The normal one-day ticket will do for the whole day
But if you have 4 hours to do the entire park, get the fast lane ticket
Queues for some rides like Madagascar is painfully long even though it's crap

Right after the entrance and also exit, you get stores every where
Don't spend yet. You'll get loadsa chance as you go along

Voila! That's "New York" for you

As artificial as it can look, give them a little bit of credit would ja.

When I went there in September, parts of the Jurassic Park was closed.
All I did was EAT

That is one helluva crazzzzzy ride! Looking at it makes me high

Go for the Blue one. You get lifted up with your legs swinging around in the sky. Awesome
The queue was only 15 minutes considering it's a weekend.
Tip: Don't jump off your seat when you're getting off the ride at the end!

I wonder if they're gona build a ride on Optimus Prime and fly us around.

Overall rating: 4✭
Would I go again? Yes, probably.
One more time with my partner, and one last time with my future kids. lol

Life As A Postgrad

Yoohoo! I seem to always say this at the beginning of every blog post but I am finally back! Although this would be a really quick update of what's been going on with my awesome/mundane life (you can circle which you think is the best answer).

Back to good old London after a superb summer break in Malaysia with family and friends. Now, it's all about dealing with builders and estate agents, calling up customer services that put you on hold for ever, waiting weeks to set up internet connection at home, maid-less, life within boxes, books, commuting the dirty old London underground during rush hour, the list goes on. Back to reality.

But it's not all that bad. First day being in Imperial College as a postgraduate seems to be rather fun and welcoming. People were nice, lecturers are great. It's all that matters. To top that off....

Guess what was in the welcome pack Imperial gave us?

Yes, the friggin iPad 2! for every student in my particular course <3

This would be my official token of appreciation to Imperial Business School,
and program director Colin Love who made this all happen. Thank you!

One of my friends from another university commented on this though,
"Well, we pay £3000 per year so we can afford for an iPad."

This issue made the front page of our university papers.

My course would be the first batch ever to receive the iPad 2.

It really is due to the nature of my course - pen-and-paperless.

Sorry to the rest of postgrads but it really wasn't our fault we got the ipad.

My lovely group mates for the rest of the term, from all over the world.

This would be one of those rare posts of me clubbing. Yes clubbing! Only on very rare occasions do I club. In my last two years living in London, I went to a club twice. In my entire life living in Malaysia, I clubbed less than ten times. Oh, did I bore you? Sorry if I have preference for a healthier life, sober and looking good than drunk and wasted, and perhaps a shorter life.

If you are never satisfied with original photos and love editing them, or have a knack for lomography and filters with vintage or retro touch to it, look no further. Try out Toycamera Analogcolor, yet another great production of Japan.

I have been using Instagram (IG) for 10 months now and I must say...

I'm lovin it even more!

It is the treasure that documented snapshots of my life, all kept neatly in one place. I would definitely recommend Instagram to anybody, because it beautifies your photos with their preset filters :) Most of my photos that I have since the past year are taken with the iphone camera and later edited with and uploaded to my Instagram. So I chucked my now made redundant Canon Ixus 65 away (although they're more realistically ideal for better quality photo). Just so you know, Instagram app is only available for iPhone users, unfortunately for you Androids and Blackberries.. Here's the snapshots of the few Instagram profile web viewers slash managers that can make your IG experience all the better.

Statigram

The best IG web manager by far if you like analytics.

Not only does it let you browse photos uploaded from around the world,

it gives you in-depth statistics of your own Instagram profile. Also, I rate

the minimalist style and approach.

This would be my most preferred site.

Simply because it is easy, minimal, has grid view, and I love dark themes ;)

Does looking at the collage of your memories all kept safely in one place

tempt you to get an iPhone now? (Highly doubt it'll be as good on non-apples)

Superb Tioman Vacay

I was on a roll with my sweet local getaways last two month. Shortly after my Penang and Bangkok trip, in no time I found myself backpacking and bussing my way to the sacred Tioman Island, located on the east coast of Peninsula Malaysia. A budgeted trip it was, my friends and I stayed in Salang Sayang Resort, not the best in terms of facilities and lavishness.

The experience, however was, one word. Wicked.

God blessed us with a bright sunny day

That, however is not our resort. Perhaps a part of their residence.

This was taken at the end of the trip. I looked kinda tanned even when shaded, don't I?

Tioman trip buddies

Salang isn't quite like the rest out there.

It ain't lavish like Berjaya Resorts, however because it is situated at the tip of the island, this beach is considered sacred and non-commercialised (google it) although there can be quite a few foreigners staying there rather than locals. If you're looking for a spa or jacuzzi for a dip and some champagnes for a sip, then this isn't the place for you. Salang provides you with the basic needs for a rather relaxed vacation, topped off with the very down to earth Four S bar at night where I've met a few friendly people from across the globe. Been here three times and loved it to bits, still.

soothe the burning sensation on your skin from the sun rays. Also, my subdued enjoyment

of a little surprise attack from down below by annoying friends (look bottom right)

We didn't have to go that far to see remarkable sea creatures because according to a friend I met in our resort, he spotted a baby 1 metre shark and giant grandpa turtle when snorkelling. And we weren't there. Dang

Done with all the beautiful side of vacation. Now onto vacation nightmares.

Never ever lay about or sun tan on the beach. Sand flies will be your biggest culprit.

Best treatment - aloe vera, anti-inflammatory cream, baking soda and water paste.

During my summer holiday back home in Malaysia, a short getaway up north to Bangkok

was inevitable. Which girl wouldn't want to set foot in Platinum Mall?

Stayed over in Swissotel Nai Lert Park, Bangkok

I would rate it 4★ instead of 5★ as on their website

No Wifi provided for free. They charge RM 50 per hour, insane.

Can somebody tell me what this piece is called? Seen it many times yet clueless.

People say, before hooking up with a Thai girl, INSPECT.

Went on a short break to Penang recently and it turned out great.

Genting Highlands

While I was back in KL, I made a short trip up to Genting Highlands with family and friends.

Dad got us the Penthouse suite in Highlands Hotel and we couldn't wait to see it!

I have had my boyfriend on Facebook over a year and have deleted him off from my friends list a month ago. Today, I've blocked him. There's no serious incidents that you may think have triggered this, but it has been affecting my relationship a lot, caused chaotic arguments that are so subjective it cannot be settled easily, not mentioning what and how specifically (but here's a hint, jealousy). This reason puts me off Facebook enough to have considered deleting my account. To give you a more precise understanding, the Facebook issue could well break us up if not dealt with properly soon. I am not afraid to say this as I am sure of it. However, blocking is just ignoring the problem. Not-knowing seems to be the easy way out, but that is just living in denial. What do you do?

In the previous post I've got a few suggestions from visitors to my blog, suggesting I should write about "Fun Things To Do In Malaysia", "Bitches Around The World", "Childhood", and "How I Met My Boyfriend". I could obviously write about all of it but the one I could relate to most as of now is How I Met My Boyfriend. Many people seem to have interest in knowing this particular topic, not that it was the most interesting story ever but probably because I was keeping a low profile. Or rather being mysterious :)

Let me write about my love story as soon as I've met my assignment deadlines which is in 2 weeks, this is how a blogger blogs responsibly! That's because I believe it will be very long-winded and it takes ages to dig up photos from my old folders and compile them altogether, and maybe a little bit of photoshopping too :)

Now, here's some serious stuff that I want to share.

That was the statistics given 3 years ago. Imagine now in 2010.

People buy things they don't need and dump half the things they buy.

Commercials manipulate the human mind only to make you feel less content.

You work, you make money, you spend that money, and you work to earn what you spent.

What do people do nowadays? Watch TV, shop, shop, and shop. I have never agreed with that.

Rubbish don't just disappear, they're all buried beneath or incinerated leaving behind toxics.

You didn't pay for the cost of the stuffs you buy. The earth paid for it, the less fortunate Mexican factory workers paid for it with their little life time wages (watch Bordertown by Jennifer Lopez and Antonio Banderas).

It could appear hypocritical of me to raise this issue while I seem to just do the same. Not really, I don't see the value in overspending money on things that are solely perceived to be amazing, just because it's branded, or just because the media manipulates you to think that way, or just because everyone else are hyped over it. I don't go on about craving to shop. Never.

Buy just what you need, and start spending on what real precious stuffs are, not your collection of Apple gadgets or your wardrobe full of Jimmy Choos.

Look at it from the bigger picture.

By the end of these photos I know ten out of ten, including myself would have forgotten about my crib entirely, blown away by the latter set of eye candies. Embarked on a remarkable chilled out trip to Penang island with my peeps from college back in Kuala Lumpur (over a month ago). I've been there couple of times and every time I do, there is a place where I must visit. The number one spot for chilling out in Penang goes to.....

Sunset Bistro!

I say it is definitely one of the best places to have a drink and smoke some shisha, mingle around with your friends in the perfect ambience with a not too annoying nor loud music playing in the background. A very beautifully decorated bar along the beach, with some fun tree house too. But mind you, high tide comes when night approaches so you can't soak your feet and fiddle around on the Penang sand.

It's been a whole month without internet..! Never thought I'd survive well without it. Now I am leeching connection from my university campus for this post, bravo me! Will be getting phone line + tv + broadband installed at home in next two weeks. Patience is Virtue. Let my rants begin.. I miss blogging. I've had enough of boring home cook meals. Almost had enough of cooking and cleaning. Hate sorting out home bills, ordering and delivering furnitures, setting up phone lines, and fixing whatever's down in the flat. Now that it's all almost done, I have a university job to do in the next couple of weeks. Rants end.

A tribute to my beloved dog Rocky who has been a part of our family for almost 3 years.

He just passed away in a tragedy this evening the 28 Aug when he got ran over by a car. I was devastated to hear such news while I was driving home from Midvalley. Did not know what to think and started crying my heart out and dashed home within minutes. I pinched myself thinking I was only having a nightmare, unfortunately, I feel the pain. This is too sudden. It feels I've just lost my family. What if I haven't gone out today? Or what if I came back an hour earlier? He would still be happily loitering around the house right now. No words can describe what an incredible thing he has been to my family and friends. He is not just a pet, it feels I have just lost another family member, yet again. He is the only thing that livens up my big home, the only company when we have no one else, and the precious gem to cheer me up when I am upset. There for us 24seven. Have not stopped crying since I heard the news. Did not get to see him the very last time either before the burial in the backyard. I do not want to see him without an eyeball and crushed brain. Why does God have to take kind living thing away from us? In such a cruel way.

Everytime I see these pictures, my tears can never stop flowing. In my sleep I still see him roaming around in the house like everyday and I feel the pain, my head feels as if it's exploding from all the hardcore crying and eventually wake up from the immense pain. I will miss his snores and scratches on my door, his odourless presence, his jumping up and down when we come home everyday, his little cries when we leave, his faithfulness to our family, and everything else no words can describe anymore. We dearly miss you and will never forget what impact you have had on our family and friends and will remember you always in our hearts and minds. No dogs can replace you and I will reminisce the good memories of you around us. You do not deserve the tragedy that has befall upon you but if this is God's arrangement, may you rest in peace and live happily up above. We have and will always love you.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Here's the post as promised! Not impressed with the timing of this blog post since I promised to make an effort to blog twice a week. But 10 days isn't so bad either, is it. Also because I didn't get as much feedback as expected so there goes my motivation. SAD.

As usual it took me about an hour to edit and post up a set of photos like these. It's never too much effect in these photos! And if they were, they were meant to look side-effectful, not fake (you know who you are always complaining). Browsing through all these photos gave me sudden flashbacks. Oh dear.. The moment has come again. I miss the holiday so much I could weep to it.

Fun Day On Spanish Beach

Once again for the n'th time, sorry for the delay in my blog post updates. I lack the motivation to blog anymore, I think it's due to laziness. Yet I still urged myself to make this blog post happen, and tadaaa! For the sake of keeping a memoir of my life.

La Seu Cathedral

Once again here's another picture-loaded post of my holiday in Majorca, because pictures speaks a thousand words :) The photos have been due for quite some time now since I last posted them on Facebook 2 weeks ago.

Another must-see attraction in the central of Palma apart from my favorite pick mentioned in the previous post, the hidden town of Soller, is the La Seu Cathedral. Very central and easily accessible via the public bus. I'm not a very holy slash religious person but I quite admire the architecture of cathedrals, the every little detail carefully carved by hand centuries ago.

One of the must-sees in Majorca is Soller, a hidden town behind and among the mountains. Google it and every website tells you the same, and I couldn't agree more. Was so excited when Jace and I took the public bus to central, Palma town.

Got back to London last weekend and I must say I've had one hell of a holiday in Majorca! Haven't had so much fun in a long time. The spontaneity of the plan where we booked the holiday 3 days before take off made it even more exciting, all under £200 with flight, accommodation, and insurance. Splendid. This post is also in conjunction with my dearest Jace's 23rd birthday, to commemorate our splendid one week getaway. Happy Birthday darling.

I wrote a review few months ago about a phone-unlocking service company called Unlocking.com, or used to be known as Unique Phones. I purchased the unlock code for my Blackberry Curve 8520 the first time in January, everything went well and thought I'd give them credits for their service. You can read the review here.

I replaced my Blackberry with a new set due to some problems last month, and I had to unlock it again. I purchased the unlock codes from Unlocking.com for the second time, and now I'm writing this to inform everyone that

THIS SITE IS A SCAM

They promised a 'premium' service which will deliver my code within 24 hours. The code did not arrive until 7 days later. I canceled my purchase because the code hasn't arrive after 3 days, but they claimed I am not eligible for a refund because I agreed to the terms. In my defense I argued that they did not comply to their terms with the '24 hours premium' service first of all. Secondly, after I canceled the service, the codes arrived. I entered both codes they provided, and it DID NOT WORK. What a joke. I emailed customer service, more than 10 emails in total to clear this up and get a refund. They claimed they have refunded but I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY REFUNDS. I had to check with my bank and was informed clearly that no incoming funds was made by Unique Phones. I emailed them again about this matter, after 5 emails (without their replies), and finally on the 6th email, I received a response saying IF I'M NOT SATISFIED I CAN LODGE A COMPLAINT. To whom did you know? To their complaints department which is just the same. Another joke.

I called their phone numbers several times but NO ONE PICKED UP. I emailed the complaints department more than twice BUT NO RESPONSE. It gets to me so much to actually be conned by a company posing to be official and efficient. They deliberately delay the customers orders and then send invalid codes (I believe), and gain profits by not delivering half the services they promised where people just left it due to the amount of hassle. Never occurred to me this would be a scam as my first purchase with them went okay (that's why I believe they deliberately ignore half the orders).

I did a research on review sites about the company. Found out I was not the only one to be tricked into such a scam. Hundreds of people had the same experience as I've had. You can all read the reviews here:

I take this as my loss and I will never deal with them again. Customer service was extremely bad and rude. Sometimes they don't reply your emails after several times. Now, they don't reply at all. My piece of advise, get your phones unlocked in little phone shops where they normally do it for 10pounds. If you had any experience with Unlocking.com I'd love to hear your comments.

As some of you may know, I turned 22 last Thursday, the 15th of April. Every year as my birthday approaches, I have this sort of phobia for aging. This year I noticed I've grown 3 strands of white hair. White hair! I've never seen a sight of gray hair on me, let alone white! Must be the great amount of stress and depression, gah. And the two corners of my head also seem to be balding slightly, OMG! Also due to the water supply in UK, they're known for making your hair fall off. Last but not least, the common sign of aging, wrinkly hands! So much of washing dishes and doing laundry here.

Chinese New Year In London

14th February 2010, a remarkable day. Double the celebration, double the fun. Both Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year at one go. in year 2010 Awesome! How often do you get a combo like that? Probably never until a century later.

I remember celebrating my Valentine's making pancakes for dinner then back to doing assignment till 8 in the morning (yeah that was it).

As for Chinese New Year, there was some 10 minutes fireworks going at Leceister Square.

I got some videos of these but I was too excited watching them live
so the videos were all cranky.

It's like a rocket taking off isn't it, the amount of smoke underneath.

I love the vibes from being right beneath the fireworks.
It gives you the Bam Bam Bam, and makes your heart go Boom Boom Boom.

I hope 2011's Chinese New Year would be even better.
Such festivals are needed to liven up the cold atmosphere in London!

My New Crib

Some of you may have heard already that I moved out from my university halls. Yeaps that is right, and that was almost 2 weeks ago. To be frank, before you start going 'wow amazing place you're so lucky' kinda thing, let me tell you the process of getting there has been such a nightmare, horrendously horribly atrocious! To the point I thought moving out was a wrong choice at the wrong time.

I must say doing business in London, from my experience thus far, is like having migraine in the ass. My landlord is an idiot, a prick, a douche who promises everything to make you pen your signature on the contract and bailing out after (no breach of contract as all were only verbal promises, he seems that promising plus the presence of the agency makes it even more promising). My estate agent, on the other hand is another pain in the neck, hopelessly useless.

THE DISPUTE WITH LANDLORD AND AGENT.

Me: "Where is the sofa and table which was here before?"
Agent: "I don't know, it's gone."
Me: "I came to see the flat 3 times and you said to sell the flat as it is, which includes the sofa and table. So where is it now?"
Agent: "Urm.. (being dopey) ok let me call the landlord now."

...ring the landlord, and he picks up.

Landlord: "Yes hello (in his fucking arrogant tone)."
Me: "I'm aware the sofa and table are gone in the flat. What happened to it?"
Landlord: "I don't provide all those furniture."
Me: "I was informed the rent includes all furnishings, and double-checked with the agent."
Landlord: "No I don't provide the sofa and table. The agent made a mistake, not me."
Me: "So? I was told that and I want THAT as you guys have promised."
Landlord :"It's the agent's fault don't blame me, blame him. I am not involved so you have to deal with him."

...and he hung up.

KANINACHAOCHIBAI.

How can you ever ask your clients to deal with such misunderstanding which was actually coming from yourself with the agent? Unbelievable.

...started discussion with agent.

Me: "He (the landlord) said he told you that sofa and table was not provided all along and that you have to bear the responsibility of making such a mistake."
Agent: "Well... (starts blabbing 10 sentences which doesn't make sense). If you want to blow the deal because of a sofa, what's the point? You can think can't you.
Me: "Excuse me, I don't care how much the sofa costs, be it 10pounds or 1000 pounds. It's not about money it's about ethics and principals."
Agent: "Look Shelyn, if you can't move on and want to blame me for this small mistake, go ahead I don't give a shit how people judge me I've got a lot going on in my life."

W T F ? KANINACHAOCHIBAI...!

Is that how they speak to their clients?! Everyone's got a lot going in their life, if you can't work in a proper manner, quit your fucking job. Don't talk to me in that tone. Amazingly I sustained to that (yes I had THAT much patience) and went on negotiating with the landlord himself. It was a long, dreadful process. It was not only the sofa and table, there was countless concealed deceptions and ultimately I got tricked into signing the contract, without getting what I deserved. The full story is way more in depth than this. In a way, this is a Con Job. I consider this a major mishap.

FUCKING DULAN.

Conclusion. As the saying goes 'every dark cloud has a silver lining.' Such an eye-opening mishap made me realize that it's time to grow up and this is the reality of life, meeting people of all kinds. To conclude the conclusion, both the landlord and agent are, when combined together, ultra duo fucking douchebags. The name of the agency is CUBES, and the landlord is called Deepak (his name pisses me off). If you come across anyone with that name, make sure it's not him!

Motorway Shoot

Last Sunday was one of the best Sundays by far I've had in London. Though it was for work, Jace and I had a great time doing his photography project we named the "5 Mile Shoot Along North Circular". That Sunday was blessed for photography as sun rose from 9 till 4, unlike any other gloomy days in London. It was a very long and dreadful walk while looking for interesting subjects, even my boots got thinned at the bottom, if you know what I mean. This collection aims to give you the awareness of the surroundings of North Circular road, things that have been abandoned and goes unnoticed along and around the motorway. So here's half of the collection, my hard work! The other half will be posted next. Enjoy!

2 weeks and I am back in the UK! How quickly time flies, gosh. Wish I stayed in KL for abit more, I'm feeling more home sick than ever and have been thinking about home every 10 minutes :( Didn't take much pictures while I was back home, I feel less of a camwhore now (think it's the men influence). Anywayz, before going back on Christmas eve, Jace and I went to Westfield for some christmas shopping. Loved the place.

Purchased the phone itself from Orange retail store in Golders Green,
£180 for the phone including £60 worth of goodies and £10 call credit.
The Skullcandy headphones cost about £35 alone, they're quite good ones!

My new Blackberry 8520. Love the yellow housing,
which is also free along with 2 other colors, makes it look like a toy.

The phone, however, is locked to the Orange network, and I fancy the O2 better.
I surveyed around and found this website which offers unlocking services to most
phone makes and models - Unlocking.Com.

Unlocking Your BlackBerry

To unlock, all you have to do is provide your phone's IMEI code by keying in *#06# on your phone, it will appear like the picture above. Fill in that code on their website and make payment and the manufacturer-authorized subsidy code to unlock your phone will be sent to you within an hour, or even shorter via text or email. Instructions on how to unlock are very direct and simple. I purchased the codes for £11.99 three weeks ago, cheaper than anywhere else including third party phone unlocking shops (£20) and Orange network (£30), in Kuala Lumpur I was told it costs above RM100 to unlock as well. But it seems the price has gone up to £19.99 now. Despite the price hike I strongly recommend Unlocking.Com, very efficient and promising services, plus easy and saves the hassle. However there is one flaw with Unlocking.Com, the codes sent might not work. If this happens, you will need to contact support and provide details of the error. A different code will be sent soon after, and it will do its job, well at least for me. Some might take up to three different codes before it unlocks!
